Welcome to WEC Nigeria
World Energy Council Nigeria is the Nigerian National Committee of the World Energy Council; a global, UN-accredited energy organisation that brings together energy leaders in over 90 countries.
In Nigeria, our role is simple but important: to create a trusted space where people from across the energy sector can come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and think long-term about the country's energy future. We work across all energy sources and technologies, supporting open dialogue that reflects Nigeria's realities and aspirations.
We are not a regulator or an advocacy group. Instead, we serve as a neutral platform for informed conversation, helping decision-makers and stakeholders understand complex energy challenges and explore practical pathways forward.
Our Background
With the approval of Nigeria's membership of WEC by the Council on the 6th day of April, 1960, the Nigerian National Committee was born, referred to as the Nigerian National Committee of the World Energy Council (NNC-WEC). African WEC Members constitute WEC-Africa. The goals of NNC-WEC is to ensure adequate and dependable supply of energy in diverse forms, which are essential for improving the nation's economy, security and standard of living; through the development of appropriate policies and plans for the judicious exploitation, and conservation where necessary, as well as efficient and environmentally sound utilization of the nation's energy resources.

The World Energy Council
The World Energy Council (WEC), founded in 1923, is a United Nations accredited and non-profit organisation registered in the UK that is dedicated to promoting the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all. WEC has members made up of National Committees of over 100 countries, including the Nigerian National Committee (NNC).

Objectives of WEC Nigeria
WEC Nigeria has the following specific objectives:
To participate in the activities of the World Energy Council in the development and peaceful use of energy resources to the greatest benefit of all.
To consider, with particular reference to the situation in Nigeria any matter which may from time to time be referred to it by the World Energy Council.
To consider such other matters falling within the scope of the objectives of the World Energy Council as may, from time to time, be referred to the Committee.
To render such advice as desirable to the Federal Government of Nigeria and its agencies towards the formulation and implementation of National Energy Policies and Plans.
