Mr. Bala Wunti

Bala Wunti is the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the World Energy Council Nigeria National Committee.

He is a renowned energy reformer and investment champion with over three decades of leadership across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.

He served as Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Limited, overseeing Nigeria’s multi-billion-dollar Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract portfolio, where he restored investor confidence and unlocked production growth.

Previously, as Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer, he led landmark commercial and institutional reforms that unlocked over US$20 billion in investments and drove NNPC’s transformation into a commercially-driven, competitive energy company. Earlier, as Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), he led reforms that strengthened energy security and supply chain transparency.

As a bridge between Africa and the global energy system, he represented Nigeria on the OPEC Economic Commission Board and at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), contributing to global dialogue on market stability and energy security.

Recognised for pragmatic, reform-driven leadership, he is a leading voice on the energy trilemma and on mobilising private capital for Africa’s just and bankable energy future.
